Vernon C. “Buck” Miller, Jr., JD and MBA, established The Business Guidance Company, LLC in 2001. In a career that has spanned forty years, Buck has been a lawyer in private practice and in-house counsel to a major privately held shipping company. In his eighteen years at the shipping company, he also served on the senior management committee and ran one of its subsidiary businesses from start-up to successful maturity. For almost 10 years, he has been a business coach and facilitated peer advisory boards of independent, non-competing business owners and CEOs.
Buck’s skills include strategic planning, management of people and projects, team-building, and finding practical ways to achieve business goals while minimizing risk. During his career, he has had extensive experience in legal service auditing; governmental and regulatory affairs; contract negotiation; crisis and risk management; public affairs; development and management of joint ventures and strategic alliances; expansion into domestic and foreign markets; and the selection, procurement, and management of professional services. Additionally, he provides his clients with business coaching; the creation and implementation of operational and growth strategies; and advice regarding insurance, marketing, downsizing, fixed cost management, human resource management, finance, and process re-engineering. His unique talent has been his ability to combine his legal skills with business and management expertise for the benefit of his Business Guidance Company clients.
Buck is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a BA in History. He earned his law degree from the Cornell Law School and his MBA in International Business and Finance from New York University. He is a member of the Bar of the State of Connecticut. He has received extensive training and has been certified as a Facilitator and Business Coach.
